This document will guide you on how to download ECA Certificates from IdenTrust once you’ve received the USB in the mail. Please note, if you normally use a Mac computer for work, you must find a Windows computer to complete these next steps.
Download certificates after receiving the physical hardware
- Before we begin, please note that you should not insert your USB until you’ve been prompted. You do not need the USB at the moment. You can however, find a dongle that accepts USB A ports if your computer doesn’t have a built in USB port. Please set aside.
- Confirm you are sitting at a computer that is running Windows. If you are not, please find a Windows computer to perform these downloads.
- Navigate to the OpenSC releases page and download the latest version for windows installations by clicking “OpenSC-0.26.1_win64.msi” like in the image below.

- Go to the downloads in your browser or downloads folder and find the installer you’ve just downloaded.
- Click the installer and install the software onto your computer.
- Click the “Typical” option when prompted to choose the type of download from OpenSC.
- After the installation is complete, restart your computer.
- Upon restarting, log back into your computer.
- Search for an email from [email protected] with the subject titled “Your IdenTrust-Issued DoD ECA Certificate is Ready! Retrieve it Today”. It was sent to you most likely around the time you applied for the ECA.

- Open the email.
- Follow the link to www.identrust.com/install.
- Click the box that says “I’m Ready - Please Check if my System is Ready”.
- In the first field, enter your activation code from the email you opened in the previous step with the subject titled “Your IdenTrust-Issued DoD ECA Certificate is Ready! Retrieve it Today”.
- In the second field, enter the password you created when you applied for the ECA in Step 1 of the onboarding document. Do NOT enter the Account Number that is in the email you have opened to find the Activation Code.
- Please note that there is currently a known bug with logging into Identrust to download ECA certificates at the moment. You will click “I forgot my password”.
